Isreali cuisine in an industrial hub.
Safta, which is Hebrew for Grandmother, is a convergence of many diverse influences. The owners, Alon and Emily Shaya, hail from New Orleans where they recently opened Saba, (Hebrew for "grandfather"). The restaurant's location in Source Hotel is fully industrial with exposed lumber and concrete throughout. So, the design challenge was to combine Israeli cuisine, an industrial space, notes of NOLA, accommodations required by a James Beard winning chef, and MOST importantly, the comfort of sharing meals at your grandmother's house without literal doilies and plastic sofa covers.
